A Good Day to be a Dragon, Symrall's Head

20 May 2009

While revising this site and making some minor corrections, I found that it had somehow reverted to an older version. Perhaps my ISP had to restore the site from backup?

I'm beginning to reach a point in my "day job" where I've got some free time. New artwork is being finished; several chapters are stories lay finished and ready for formatting. My fingers are crossed that I'll have significant updates before Memorial Day.

13 March 2009

I've been working full-time for the last several months on a very interesting (but time-consuming) project. Lots of cool stuff, to be sure, but it has left me with little time for working on this web site.

That said, I've written another 40,000 words since December, and I've got some very nice artwork to go with them. Now I just need to get everything converted to HTML and posted... :)

10 November 2008

In spite of appearances, we're still here. The story will continue...

I've been exceptionally busy for the last month, so there hasn't been time for adding chapters or other material. Financial stability is a Good Thing™. Once I'm over the hump here, I'll be able to work on this site without worrying about those nasty distractions called "bills". :)

14 October 2008

I've just posted the fifth chapter of Facets of Redemption, Questions.

At this point, artwork is taking longer than I'd expected, something I probably should have forseen and planned for. As it is, my artists have three fantastic pieces underway; I am resisting the urge to exert pressure, because what I'm receiving is quite worth the wait. You'd think that after living with artists for more than a quarter century, I'd be more cognizant of the challenges. Which include Corel Painter destroying a piece that was almost finished... yet, in the end, the "replacement" art is better than the original.

2 October 2008

The Battle of Landfall is the pivotal fourth chapter of Facets of Redemption. Yes, it's a tad late, and no, there's no new artwork... therein lies a tale of ambitious schedules laid low by flu and business trips. The artwork is forthcoming — two terrific pieces, I might add — as soon as my art department stops hacking their lungs out.

Meanwhile, I'm changing the schedule a bit. I'll be posting new chapters every week, even if the artwork is not done. Then we'll add illustrations as they become available. Also, I'm working on a new non-fiction piece for the second week of October. Sometimes, in the midst of chaos, the best therapy is writing...

15 September 2008

Beachhead is the third chapter of Facets of Redemption.

8 September 2008

The web site will be quiet this week, as I'm both on a business trip and fighting off a nasty case of the flu. You'll find the next chapters of Facets of Redemption on the week of September 14th, plus other items I've been working on.

2 September 2008

The the second chapter is now available for Facets of Redemption. This week, we have artwork by my wife, Maria.

25 August 2008

I hope you'll enjoy the first chapter of my novel, Facets of Redemption. New chapters will appear every two weeks for the next several months. Actual "dead tree" books will be available Real Soon Now. The painting of Symrall (the dragon) is by my daughter, Elora, who is also responsible for the site logo and other original artwork. My wife, Maria, will be contributing artwork as well.

Also added for the start-up of this site:

Frozen Assets is a little tale I once sold to a now-defunct fantasy magazine.

Alys takes place in the same world as Facets of Redemption, but at a later date. Originally, Alys was purchased by a professional magazine -- only to be taken off the publication schedule due to "changes in editorial direction." And people wonder why authors are prone to insanity...

Articles (non-fiction)

25 August 2008

I reposted my article about The Iguanas of Gasparilla Island. The piece is a tad dated, but people keep asking to see it, and I am working on a follow-up piece.
